Festival of Speed Revival Meeting Other

Goodwood Festival of Speed

As some of you know I've been to the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few times. As ever I'd got hundreds of photos to sort through from the previous events, but will do my best.
On the 2006 page is a video (& audio) of the 2005 Renault F1 car, playing tunes on it's V10 engine!

What is it ? Probably the biggest racing motorsport celebration in the world (with around 150,000 people per day, set in over 2000 acres).
What's there ? Examples of just about every type of racing car there has ever been, from some of the first ever racing cars (circa 1890), to this year's world rally, formula one, and Le Mans cars. Over 300 cars are expected to hillclimb, and many more are on static display.
Who's there ? It reads like a "who's who" of racing drivers, with most of them driving something up the hill. Previous years have included Sir Stirling Moss, Giacomo Agostini, Sir Jack Brabham, Jenson Button, Damon Hill, John Surtees, Barry Sheen (in the soapbox derby) and many more...
What happens ? Most cars do either timed or demonstration runs up the 1.2 mile hill climb circuit. But unlike most events you can mingle in the pits, and talk to the mechanics and drivers. From 2005 there is also a rally course, so rally cars (& drivers) from over the years, get the blast through an authentic forest section.

Goodwood revival meeting

The revival meeting is held at the motor racing circuit. It is set in the 1948-1966 period (which is when Circuit was originally open). All of the staff, and most of the spectators wear period clothing, all of the cars and motorbikes races are of a type that would have (or at least could have) raced there, in period. See: Getting the look for some clothing ideas. (Note: it's an airfield so big hats are not a good idea).

What is it ? Probably the most authentic historic racing meeting in the world.
What's there ? Numerous exampls of classic 40's 50's and 60's racing cars (and motorcycles from either the 50's or 60's)
Who's there ? It reads like a "who's who" of racing drivers, with most of them driving something around the track. Previous years have included Sir Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham, John Surtees, and many more...
What happens ? The cars race in various classes, loosely based on original race formats from the circuits past. The bikes race in a two part "Barry Sheen Memorial Trophy" which alternates between 50's and 60's bikes on alternate years.
Note: Tickets are availible ONLY in advance!
